TRX Suspension Training
We will be starting punch cards for TRX Suspension Training starting June 1st. You can purchase an 8 punch pass for $20 and have up to 60 days to use it. You are able to attend any TRX class. The instructors will punch the cards. First come first serve -- space limited to 10 participants.

What is TRX? TRX is revolutionary method of leveraged body weight exercise. Safely perform hundreds of exercises that build power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and prevent injuries, all at the intensity you choose.
FREE SMALL MEMBER CONNECT GROUPS
At the M.E. Lyons YMCA we care about what you think. As a result of the 2010 Membership Satisfaction survey, we learned that you want opportunities to connect in small groups. Groups are member driven, free of charge, and use the Lyons YMCA as a facilitator for social networking to connect with others of similar interest, backgrounds, or goals. These groups will meet regularly, usually weekly to engage in conversation, friendship, and enjoy good company.

Free Swim Evaluation
To ensure that your child is placed in the appropriate class, we strongly recommend a swim evaluation before registration for participants new to our swim lesson program. Appointments must be made in advance with the Aquatic Director. If your child is under the age of 6, you must be prepared to enter the water if needed. YMCA Swim Lessons are designed to allow the participant to have fun in the water while being guided to learn swimming skills. Activities are based on the developmental abilities of the participant. Participants will learn the basic skills that build on one another as the levels increase. They also learn about water safety, water sports and games, character values/personal growth and rescue.
Ages 6 months – 36 months
This program promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness for children
6 36 months of age. Parents will accompany their child in the water during this lesson and will learn ways to help their child become more comfortable in and around water.
PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS
Ages 3-5 years
At this level, children begin to attend classes without their parents. This level helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water. It is designed for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, pool safety, and comfort in holding their faces in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming. To advance, must demo front/back float with Individual Floatation Device, paddle stroke front/back 5 feet without Individual Floatation Device.
This advanced beginner level reinforces Pike skills. It is for children who are comfortable in the water. They are taught to flutter kick, dive, float, and perform the progressive paddle stroke. Children can swim across the pool without assistance by the end of this level. To advance, must demo 20 seconds front/back float and paddle stroke front/back/side 15 feet without Individual Floatation Device. Must complete PIKE or demonstrate required skills.
At this level children review previous skills, improve skills, build endurance by swimming on their front and back, and learn to tread water and perform the progressive paddle stroke. Children can swim across the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level. To advance, must demo front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 20 feet without Individual Floatation Device. Must complete EEL or demonstrate required skills.
Children at this level review previously learned skills and refine their crawl and back stroke and floating skills. They also learn underwater swimming skills. Children can swim a length of the pool on the front and back at the end of this level. To progress, must demo front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 40 feet without Individual Floatation Device. This level is for the child who has the endurance to swim the length of the pool without equipment, has the concept of rotary breathing with over arm recovery, backstroke, and personal safety skills. Must complete RAY or demonstrate required skills.
PROGRESSIVE SWIM LESSONS
This level is for the beginning school-age swimmers. It acquaints children with the pool, the use of flotation devices, and front and back floating. By the end of this level, they should know the front, side and back paddle strokes, some synchronized swimming, as well as some water sports and games skills.
Swimmers continue to build upon basic skills, now performing more skills without the aid of a flotation device. They are introduced to lead-up strokes to the front and back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. More synchronized swimming and wetball skills are taught, as well as some diving skills. Must complete Poliwog or demonstrate required skills.
This is the initial intermediate level. The children further refine the lead-up strokes they have learned as their skills become more like those normally used in swimming. They learn more synchronized swimming movements, wetball skills, and diving skills. Must complete Guppy or demonstrate required skills.
At this point, swimmers work to perform the crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl stroke, and sidestroke, with turns. They are introduced to the butterfly stroke. They continue learning additional synchronized swimming movements, wetball skills, diving skills, and are introduced to the use of masks and fins. Must complete Minow or demonstrate required skills.
At this advanced level, students work on refining their strokes and increasing their endurance. They develop the ability to perform more complex combinations of synchronized swimming movements, learn to dive off a one meter board, and develop better wetball playing skills. They are also introduced to the use of a snorkel. Must complete Fish or demonstrate required skills.
The students at this level continue to improve their strokes, with starts and turns, and are introduced to the inverted breaststroke, the crawl, and the over-arm sidestroke. Opportunities are provided for further work on synchronized swimming, wetball, and skin diving. Must complete Flying Fish or demonstrate required skills.

YMCA Lifeguard Course
Complete CPR/AED, 1st Aid, BBP & O2 courses for the Professional Rescuer before the end of the LG Course. Participants of the lifeguard course must meet all the following requirements:
- 500 yard swim using 4 different strokes
- Tread water for 2 minutes without using your arms.
- Perform a 9-12ft. head first surface dive
- Successfully complete all required skills
- Pass a written exam
- Attend all sessions

This class is for children at the Minnow level who would like to learn the basic figures and routine skills of Synchronized Swimming. This class is also an excellent place to start for those considering joining the Synchronized Team – Synchrogators. For more information, visit our website.

Synchronized Swim Team
The Cincinnati YMCA Synchrogators is a competitive synchronized swim team for girls & boys in grade school through high school. Sign-ups are encouraged in June through September, as the team begins it’s season in the Fall. Our comprehensive program includes strength training, conditioning, figure skills and routine skills.
Adapted Swim Program
The Adapted Swim Program is a swimming class designed for any physically or mentally challenged child. Children 8 and older are given the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics. Special volunteers will assist your child in the pool.
Swimmers must be 16 or older to participate in this program. The swimmer must be able to swim at least two lengths of the pool. This class is for the experienced swimmer that has the endurance for one hour of continuous swimming.
M.E. Lyons YMCA/Anderson Barracudas
The YMCA offers an exciting and comprehensive swim team, both Winter and Summer, designed to help young people grow and develop mentally, physically and spiritually into productive contributing adults. The training program consists of thorough instruction in the four competitive strokes, starts, turns, and a gradual increase in endurance, strength, flexibility and speed training. Masters Swimming is geared toward adult competitive and fitness swimmers. The members of the team register with the United States Masters Swimming Organization. The training program consists of thorough instruction in the four competitive strokes, starts and turns. Coached and prewritten workouts are available. Swimming background is helpful. Classes are offered to members as a free benefit to their membership. Therefore, you must be a member to participate in any water fitness program. For the safety of members of all ages, children 8 and under are not permitted in the pool or on the deck during water exercise classes. Children 9 and older are permitted to participate if they have completed the youth and/or teen fitness orientation and are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Just My Speed
Shallow water class, focusing on fitness for the total body. Includes cardiovascular and strength training.
Shallow water class adapting Joseph Pilates’ method of strengthening the core muscles (abs, back, gluts & thighs) to the water. Improve flexibility.
This class focuses on improving cardiorespiratory endurance. We work with the specific properties of water, such as buoyant support and resistance, to provide a great workout for most levels of fitness ability.
Shallow water class designed to improve endurance and flexibility, using the resistance of the water to improve strength.
This Moderate to High Intensity, deep water, impact free class uses Aqua Jogger belts and/or cuffs along with gloves to improve fitness, endurance and strength with. Be advised the Aqua Jogger belt is NOT a life saving device. Swimming ability useful, but not necessary.
Finning – During this High Intensity, impact free lap class, participants wear floating fins & water gloves to raise their heart rate as well as strengthen the core and lower body muscles. No flotation belts are used. Participants must be able to swim.
Core & More
This Light Intensity shallow water, non-cardio class works to strengthen and tone the muscles of the entire body, while focusing on your core with minimal to moderate joint impact. No swimming ability necessary.
M.E. Lyons Preschool places its emphasis on the social and emotional growth of the children, as well as academic introduction. Free play and group times, with opportunities for large and small muscle development and sharing of thoughts and feelings provide a well-balanced program. Each class is led by an experienced teacher and assistant. Preschool classes licensed by the State of Ohio are available for children ages 2 1/2 - 5 in half-day sessions.

M.E. Lyons YMCA operates Before & After School Programs for the Forest Hill School District. These programs are licensed by the State of Ohio. FAMILY ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
All YMCA Enrichment Programs are now value-added benefits to your membership. All programs are offered on an ongoing basis and no registration is required. Ages 18 months – 3 Years
This class gives you and your young child the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and create art! In this setting, the process of creating the art is our first priority. Some mediums explored may be finger painting, easel painting, stamping, and more.
Adventures in Art
Your child will begin their adventure in art through a variety of themes, mediums and activities.
Grab your chef hats and come join us for a cooking experience that will be delightful! We will combine literature books with cooking activities. During each lesson, we will also incorporate math skills such as counting, measuring, and number recognition. Bring your little chefs and their appetite too!
Wild Wacky Science
Your junior scientist will experience various scientific principles through hands on activities such as making rockets, volcanoes, slime, and much more!
You do not have to be an artist to take this class. Learn the basic techniques of watercolor.
Big Forest Nation
The M.E. Lyons YMCA Y Guides, Y Princess and Trailblazers programs help develop positive relationships between fathers and their children grades K-6th. Tribes are formed around school and neighborhood groupings with six to ten parent/child couples. Tribes meet monthly, September through May. Under the guidance of their dads, kids have the freedom to explore their interests in a creative and imaginative way. Regular meetings combine ceremony and programming which includes crafts, games, or storytelling. The central theme of the program draws upon the culture of the Native American Indian to help promote a positive and lasting relationship between parents and children. Monthly events are held for all program participants including campouts, roller skating, bowling, pinewood derby and much more.

Teen Fitness Orientations consist of 3, 1-hour training sessions that are designed for both the parent and teen to understand the appropriate techniques and proper use of the WEIGHT EQUIPMENT and CARDIO EQUIPMENT, if they have not completed the Youth Fitness Orientation. Parental involvement is required. After completion, teens may use the WEIGHT EQUIPMENT and Cardio Equipment with parental/ guardian supervision or with another TEEN ORIENTATION- Certified participant. Please see the Welcome Center to schedule an appointment. All orientations are included with your YMCA membership.
GROUP FITNESS CLASSES
Classes are offered to members as a free benefit to their membership. Therefore, you must be a member to participate in any group fitness program. For the safety of members of all ages, children 8 and under are not permitted in the studio or gym area during group exercise classes. Children 9 and older are permitted to participate if they have completed the youth and/or teen fitness orientation and are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children ages 12 and under are not permitted to use weights in any of the classes. Group Fitness schedules are available at the Welcome Center.
An interval bench workout incorporating cardio and strength training using various equipment. Equipment may include body bars, stability balls, tubing, and/or weights.
Increase muscle tone and strength, using various equipment (hand weights, etc), includes floor work.
An indoor bike ride that simulates situations similar to riding a bike outdoors. Some movements include hill climbs, sprints and interval training. Instructor uses music, motivation and enthusiastic coaching to lead students through a ride that best suits their fitness level and goals.
- Must pick up a pass at the Welcome Center no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the start of class.
- Passes may not be reserved by phone.
- Only 1 pass per person.
- Bring water and towel to class.
Alternating bursts of high-intensity work with low-intensity activity to maximize the heart's effort. Focus on cardio strength and endurance, as well as muscular strength and endurance, through timed activities, allowing for a whole body workout. Full-body toning, using a variety of equipment and techniques. Complete conditioning for muscular strength and endurance. Abdominal work included!
Early morning energy boost for all. Includes warm-up, aerobics, strength and endurance work.
An exercise method based on the work of Joseph Pilates. Focus on strengthening the core muscles, or the “Power House” (including the gluteals, abdominals, and back). Improve flexibility and strength for the overall body.
Pump & Jump
An interval workout, using jump ropes, weights, and mats for those who want to move, sweat and get their heart rates kicking.
Silver Sneakers Cardio Circuit
Increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.
Silver Sneakers Muscular Strength & Range of Motion
A variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
Silver Sneakers Yoga Stretch
Move your body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
A high-intensity, low-impact program for all. Involves stepping up and down on an adjustable platform, while simultaneously performing upper body movements. Includes strength training and abdominal work.
Stretching will be taught for relaxation, stress release, flexibility and fun!
Sculpt and tone the entire body using resistance equipment, including barbells, hand-weights, etc. Enhance your posture and balance while increasing your bone density.
Combine elements of strength, balance, concentration, flexibility, meditation, breath control, and relaxation. No previous yoga experience is necessary.
A challenging workout to maximize your power & strength, improve your agility, quickness, and overall endurance through a series of drills, resistance training and plyometrics.
This class focuses on directing the stimulation deeper than the muscular tissues, targeting the connective tissues; such as ligaments, joints & even bones; that are not normally exercised in an active style of practice. It emphasizes muscle relaxation, will increase range of motion and is suitable for all levels.
Low-impact and high-intensity. Lose weight (you’ll burn up to 500 calories per class), tone your muscles, have fun and learn different Latin movements (Meringue, Salsa, Cha-Cha, and more). It feels more like a party then exercise!
Tai-Chi for Beginners
Movement of the joints based on coordination and relaxation as opposed to muscle tension. Increas flexibility, muscle strength and relieve stress.
2012 Summer Youth Baseball Program
Boys and girls, ages 3-6 are invited to join our Youth Baseball League. This is an instructional league with the goal of teaching the fundamentals of baseball, such as catching, throwing, and basic game concepts. Youth will be placed on a team based on their age. Players can play up an age group, but they can not play down. Both age groups will practice for 20 minutes and then play a 30 minute game (or three innings). They will practice/play on either Thursday or Friday night between the hours of 6-8pm. Everything will be located at Riverside Park (3969 Roundbottom Rd.). Parents will be able to sign up for their Practice nights/game at the YMCA Member service desk upon completion of the registration form and payment.
