
We
are proud to offer the National YMCA Swim Lessons program. Participants are taught
not only swimming skills, but also skills that will allow them to enjoy aquatic
activities throughout their lives. The YMCA Swim Lessons program is based on the
concept of developing a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
One

PARENT AND
CHILD CLASSES Ages 6 mo.- 3 years Parents are in the water
with their child, participating in the class. Students are introduced to basic
swimming skills as they learn safety & enjoyment in an aquatic environment.
- Blowfish
Ages
30-36 months This class is for children who are very comfortable in the
water and are ready for small class participation without parents.
- Pike
Ages
3 to completion of kindergarten Little or no swimming ability.
- Pre-Eel
Ages
3 to completion of kindergarten For those children who have completed the
Pike requirements but still need work on endurance. Teacher recommendaton only.
- Eel
Ages
3 to completion of kindergarten Must be able to swim front, back and side
10 yards without float belt; must be able to jump off the side and return to the
wall without assistance.
- Ray/Starfish
Ages
3 to completion of kindergarten Must be able to swim front, back and side
25 yards without float belt; must be comfortable in the deep water (10).
- Jr.
Porpoise
Ages 3 to completion of kindergarten Front rhythmic
breathing almost perfected; must be able to swim 25 yards each front crawl, back
crawl and elementary backstroke; beginning to perfect sidestroke.
YOUTH,
TEEN & ADULT SWIM This program has seven levels for ages six
and older. Each level builds on the one before it, culminating in the Porpoise
Level where participants apply skills learned to an ever-widening circle of aquatic
activities.
- Polliwog
Little
or no swimming ability.
- Guppy
Swim
without float belt 20 feet front, back and side; jump in and return to side without
assistance.
- Minnow
Must
be able to swim without belt 25 yards front, back and side; rudimentary rhythmic
breathing on front. Jump in and return to side without assistance. Must be comfortable
in the deep water (10).
- Fish
Must
be able to swim 25 yards each front crawl with rotary breathing, rudimentary breaststroke,
rudimentary sidestroke with scissors kick backstroke and elementary backstroke;
must be able to jump off diving board and return to safety.
- Flying
Fish
Must
be able to swim 50 yards each front crawl with rotary breathing, breaststroke,
elementary backstroke, back crawl and sidestroke; 15 yards butterfly; perform
a standing dive.
- Shark
Must
be able to swim 100 yards each front crawl (bilateral breathing), breaststroke,
elementary backstroke, back crawl and sidestroke; swim 50 yards lifesaving stroke
and 15 yard butterfly.
- Porpoise
This
is an advanced swim class for those wanting to perfect all strokes, increase endurance,
and learn water sports, personal safety and character development.
- Teen/Adult
An
Instructional program for teens and adults who would like to learn to swim or
just improve their swimming skills.
ADAPTED
Ages 5-13 years Swim lessons for those with special needs. Please

TIGERSHARK
COMPETITIVE STROKE CLINIC August 21-25 4:15 pm - 5:30
pm This is a competitive
swimming clinic which will concentrate on all aspects of strokes, starts and turns,
featuring video analysis of all strokes, extensive stroke work and exercises,
detailed stroke correction chart for each participant and personalized attention.
Must know all four competitive strokes.
Members: $28 Program

TIGERSHARK
SWIM TEAM - SUMMER 2008 Join the Tigershark Swim Team, one of the
best YMCA teams in the United States. Practice begins on April 23 for all ages.
The team competes in dual and USA Swimming meets and YMCA Invitational, League
Championships and at YMCA Long Course Nationals. The summer is a great time to
start for any age athlete. Join the team for a two-week trial period for only

SWIM TEAM This is an introduction to competitive swimming without
the full-scale commitment. Swimmers practice on Friday and Saturday on the basics
of all four competitive strokes, starts, turns and finishes. Pre-competitive meets

September. WATER FITNESS Aquatic
exercise is an ideal way to attain and/or maintain aerobic fitness, increase flexibility
and burn calories without high impact to the body, or sweating! PCY offers shallow
& deep water exercise programs. These programs emphasize core stability, strength
and alignment, as well as aerobic conditioning. No swimming ability is required.
Shallow water classes areconducted in either the waterpark (water
temp 6°F) or the indoor pool (water temp 83°F) in waist-to-chest depth
water with feet touching the floor. Water shoes are highly recommended for shallow
water classes.
Deep water classes are conducted in the deep end
of the indoor pool (water temp 83°F) with participants wearing buoyancy belts
and feet never touching the floor-a totally no-impact workout. Members:

ARTHRITIS
AQUATIC PROGRAM This class is a gentle, warm water exercise program
which soothes stiff joints and aching muscles. PRENATAL
WATER EXERCISE A fun, total body workout for expectant mothers.
For swimmers and non-swimmers.
I TRIED SCUBA Try
this two-hour introduction and experience this fantastic sport of underwater exploration.
If you like water and watching the TV thrills of scuba diving, youll love

SCUBA This class involves three phases: classroom, pool and open
certification. The YMCA course was the first nationally certified and still has
the highest standards throughout the world. Classes run for five weeks. All equipment
