Heart disorders such as arrhythmia can be among the most life-threatening
conditions to affect the cardiovascular system. However, in a hopeful new study,
researchers conclude that a diet high in broiled or baked fish can help maintain
healthy heart rhythm. Published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology,
the study was conducted by Harvard Medical School researchers. The study's authors
focused on more than 5,000 patients who were over the age of 65. Studying the
patients over the course of a year, researchers found that those who consumed
broiled or baked fish at least once a week exhibited a lower average heart rate
and fewer incidences of abnormal heart rhythm than those who ate fish less than
once a month. Patients in the study who ate fish at least five times a week were
found to exhibit the healthiest heart rate and rhythm, on average. (LifeScript)
EAT WHOLE GRAINS In a Danish-Harvard research, men who ate the most whole
grains (about 1 1/2 ounces a day) cut heart disease odds 18%. Whole grains rich
in bran (such as oat or wheat bran) are more potent, cutting risk 30%. Ladies,
they are good for you, too. Now is the perfect time to think about your
New Year 's resolutions. Increase your fiber intake, eat more fruits, vegetables
and fish.....and if you use tobacco in any form QUIT! Continue or start an exercise
program! Remembering always that a physically BETTER you can mean a happier and
healthier holiday season..... and the rest of your life too!
