40 Developmental Assets
Asset #20:
Time at Home

Young person is out with friends "with nothing to do" two or fewer nights per week.

Families have fun nights at home together. They could have an in-home version of Top Chef and have each family member make a different course for dinner, or have a family game night.

THIS MONTH'S ACTIVITIES

Take a NFL Player to School!
The NFL and JCPenney Afterschool Fund are collaborating to give youth ages 6-13 a chance to "Take a Player to School". Winners will have the opportunity to ride to school with an NFL player in a limousine, go to class together and co-host a pep rally for their peers. Now through Sept. 29, kids can register at any JCPenney store or online at www.NFLrush.com.

Hughes Has Arts!
Twelve students in our after school arts program at the Hughes Community Learning Center are kicking off the program - showing school pride by painting a mural in the school lunchroom. Students submitted individual original design ideas, and then came up with a collaborative design. It was encouraging to watch these great students being complimentary to each other, emphasizing each other's great work. Last week, they began drawing their final concept on the wall. Jana Lavelle, site coordinator, was thrilled when one of the students approached her to ask, "Did you see the mural today? We worked on it during lunch and added more to it." We are excited and proud to see the students taking ownership of this project.
